Zero Kieran McKenna Celtic Talks as Bellamy Pledges to Wales

Both are being considered with the coaching position at the Premiership title holders following the former manager's resignation on Monday.

McKenna's Position on Celtic

McKenna described the Glasgow giants as "an enormous soccer institution" but emphasized he is "in the middle" of a "long-term project" with the Championship side.

The mid-thirties took charge of Ipswich in 2021 and led them to the English top flight with consecutive elevations, but they won just four games last season as they were demoted back to the Championship and they currently sit twelfth place in the Championship.

"There have been such conversations," the English capital native ex- Irish young player said when questioned about being on Celtic's shortlist.

"This isn't a matter I have given any thought to, or where any portion of my concentration is currently.

"I have a unique job here at a special team. And we're at a crucial stage of the campaign. Anything external hasn't reached my radar."

Context and Contractual Aspects

It has been suggested that the manager would be open to speaking to Celtic given his boyhood allegiances.

"Growing up, we all have our affinities," he said when questioned about those. "It's unlikely all people has to go around and announce what they used to be, but of course it's a really big sports organization."

The coach agreed to a new four-year contract in 2024 and was questioned about his alleged £5m release clause.

"In every manager's contract, there are provisions," he responded. "I'm unaware what my specific terms are and, if I did, I wouldn't disclose you anyway!

"I approach this job like I'll be Ipswich manager forever. I know that's not always going to be the case, but I'll always give maximum effort as while I remain in position."

Bellamy's Situation

Bellamy represented the Hoops on loan from Newcastle United in the mid-2000s, but the ex- Welsh forward is minded to finish the ongoing global tournament campaign, a stance that would effectively rule out the 46-year-old from immediately taking the Glasgow position.

Wales are presently in third place in their qualifying group behind group toppers Belgium and second-placed North Macedonia.

Victories over the minnows and North Macedonia in next month would book their place in the final qualifying round, but they are virtually assured of making those, due to a successful Nations League campaign, should they not finish as their group second place.

Considering his present stance, the Wales manager, whose contract expires after Euro 2028, would not be available until after the play-offs at the minimum.
