Former President Donald Trump stated on the weekend that he has asked the relatives of a National Guard member killed last week to come to the presidential home.
He noted that he spoke to her parents and they were “heartbroken”.
US army specialist Beckstrom, twenty years old, was killed in a violent incident on Wednesday in DC.
Her colleague, Andrew Wolfe, twenty-four years old, remains hospitalized in critical condition.
Vigils across the state have taken place in their remembrance.
The president said he’s talked about a meeting at the presidential residence for the parents of both individuals of the state Guard.
“I stated: ‘When you’re ready, because that’s a tough thing, arrive at the White House. We’re going to pay tribute to her,” Trump informed journalists. “And likewise with him, whether he recovers or not.”
Attendees gathered over the past few days at a local school in West Virginia to remember Beckstrom.
Both they had been serving with the military unit as part of the president’s federal initiative to assist public safety in DC.
“Sarah was the individual that instructors hoped for. She behaved with inner fortitude, a bright grin and a upbeat demeanor that lifted people around her,” Hankins, the principal of her alma mater, told the press. “She was caring, considerate and always willing to assist people.”
Funeral plans for Beckstrom are still being arranged.
Authorities have indicted a 29-year-old individual from Afghanistan with a charge of murder and charges of assault with intent to kill while carrying a weapon.
The event prompted the administration to halt refugee claims and temporarily stop providing entry permits to holders of travel documents.
Andrew Wolfe, a resident of Martinsburg, enlisted in early 2019 and is a graduate of Musselman high school, according to the news agency.
He continues to receive treatment and is “fighting for his life”, West Virginia governor Morrisey mentioned on a news program.
Attorney general Pam Bondi told the program that she planned to visit the family.
Beckstrom, from her hometown, graduated from Webster County High in mid-2023 and joined the military shortly after, working as a MP with honor, according to the military.
“She had a lot of goodness and she certainly had fortitude,” the governor told the crowd at the memorial. “Though her time ended too soon, she has left a mark that’s going to last forever.”
