From the very beginning of Campaign 4, new Dungeon Master Brennan Mulligan has kept fans guessing with deep backstory, a colorful mix of heroes, and a gripping narrative showcasing angels, evil spirits, and malevolent powers expanding in influence within Dol-Makjar.
Note: Spoilers for the latest installment of Campaign 4 follow below.
The Soldiers Table Introduced
The latest chapter finished on a major cliffhanger and presented the premier party of heroes who will separate from the primary party to undertake their independent quest, distinct from the additional parties.
This warrior group features the determined fighter (played by Travis), Thimble (the talented performer), the strong-willed figure (Whitney), Wicander Halovar (Sam Riegel), and Kattigan (Robbie).
The Reason for Division
With a large ensemble, it was evident from the outset that maintaining everyone at a single group would be unfeasible.
That’s why, the opening chapters of this story serve as an Introduction, weaving together the personal journeys before branching into three smaller tables: Warriors, Strategists, and Questers.
What Defines the Soldiers Table
As described by Brennan Lee Mulligan, the combat-focused party is for adventurers who are drawn to a classically intense fight-heavy gameplay experience where peaceful solutions are scarce.
Initially, characters like the squeamish cleric the cleric might seem out of place, but the developments of the latest installment make it clear why these specific adventurers are perfectly fit for the combat party.
Reasons to Leave
First, the team has a clear idea where to proceed after a violent initial meeting with the antagonists.
Casimir of the deceased character—whose demise initiated the campaign’s events—used the foes for his selfish purposes, entering Thjazi’s hideout, striking Thimble, and stealing all the powerful objects to dispose of.
The traitor then cleared his debts and escaped to a secure base in Gormalay, Timmony, beyond the urban center, with Teor’s brother close behind.
Individual Reasons
Moreover, each character has a personal reason to depart Dol-Makjar:
- The rogue, as Thjazi’s partner and best friend, wants vengeance.
- The adventurer is familiar with Timmony and warns that it is a hostile place.
- The strong character and The healer, having disobeyed his relatives’ demands to kill the target and instead rescued him, have no other options.
- However, their status as prominent individuals in House Halovar could assist the group reach places they typically wouldn’t be able to.
- Additionally, Teor pledged a unbreakable promise to The savior for his rescue and will now follow him wherever.
Fugitives
Lastly, all of them are wanted by the powers that rule Dol-Makjar for a range of causes, making lingering locally too risky:
- The rogue and The hero are notorious outlaws.
- Tyranny and The cleric defied House Halovar and the army of fiends they are aligned with.
- The fighter is targeted for elimination by House Halovar.
This means them few options but to travel to the northern region in quest for the antagonist.
