The Mighty Nein's Introductory Sequence Selected the Incorrect Critical Role Song

The Mighty Nein, the most recent animated series by the beloved role-playing group, revealed an exciting opening credits. It features our favorite cast of misfits, misfits, and rogues kicking ass and making their mark, while teasing at several heart-wrenching personal histories for characters such as the voice actor's wizard Caleb, and Travis Willingham's orc warlock, the character Fjord.

Overall, the opening appears amazing. However, I felt that an element was missing in the song choice.

The intro uses "Welcome to Wildemount", an exceptional composition composed by producer and singer the talented musician. It's a track from the official score of that title, the second one released by the production company's music division Scanlan Shorthalt Music. It's a wonderful nostalgic choice, and I suspect that devotees of the sequel series will appreciate its inclusion.

Personally, The Mighty Nein's opening doesn't quite capture the hype and energy that was part of the show's live-play sessions. "Your Turn to Roll", composed by musician the artist, was an instant classic in my view when it was first revealed in 2015, and it only got better when cast member the performer wrote words to the tune for the animated Campaign 2 opening in 2018.

Including singing from Ashley Johnson, Laura Bailey, a co-star, as well as the writer, the track was memorable and enjoyable. At the time, I hadn't seen the second campaign at that point, but this was such an earworm that I kept it on my device. This track that excites you before you start an episode of fantasy hijinks.

The show's intro with "Welcome to Wildemount" fails to hit the same chords for me. It's a grand composition, but based on my understanding of the group, I feel that its mood is somewhat mismatched.

Of course, the creators has already said that the series will have some surprises and variations from the original live sessions. An adjusted mood for its intro seems to be among these.

This animated adventure will be available to watch on the streaming service from November 19. If you can't wait before that, or want a head start to get to know the personas of Critical Role's Campaign 2, the actual play are available on Spotify and YouTube.
